You That Are Men
“Elijah was a man with a nature like ours, and he prayed earnestly that it would not rain; and it did not rain on the land for three years and six months.” ~ James 5:17

I had arranged a large women’s seminar. (Let me rephrase that: I had arranged a large seminar for women!) Many women would be traveling many miles to attend. Our church facilities would be overflowing with guests, and we needed a pretty day! So we asked the Lord of the skies to arrange suitable weather for us.
I told my son Peter about our prayer but he didn’t seem particularly impressed. “Well, Peter,” I went on, “Elijah prayed and it didn’t rain; we’ve got three thousand women praying, so that should do something!” There was a long quiet pause, as the information sank in. “You mean,” said Peter at last, “it’s going to take three thousand women to do what one mere man did?” I threw a cushion at him, as he quickly disappeared.
Then I thought about the fact that so many more women were involved in church work or had offered to serve God on the mission fields of the world than had men, and I prayed for the movement of God’s Spirit in the hearts of men everywhere. I asked that they would not think that Christianity was a woman’s religion but would realize that Jesus Christ was the manliest man of all! “Ye that are men now serve Him.”
