“He will also go before Him in the spirit and power of Elijah” (Luke 1:17).

If you are going to be great for God, you will need a sense of destiny.  John the Baptist had a sense of destiny.  In fact, when his enemies came to ask him what he thought about himself, he answered, “I am/ ‘The voice of one crying in the wilderness: “Make straight the way of the Lord”’” (John 1:23).  He had taken time out to meet God and find out what he was supposed to be doing with his life.  He appeared very sure of his role in God’s plan and purpose.

Do you have a sense of destiny?  Do you know what you are supposed to be doing?  “How do I find that out?” you may ask.

How did John find it out?  He found out from the Scriptures and by prayer and fasting.  He knew his Bible well enough to be familiar with Malachi 4:5, which says Elijah must come before Christ.  He also knew that this did not mean Elijah would be reincarnated.  When the priests and Levites asked him if he was Elijah, he said no (see John 1:21)!  He understood that it did mean there would be one sent to prepare men’s hearts for the King and His kingdom, and he believed himself to be that man.  I’m sure his parents had a lot to do with his discovering his destiny; they must have told him the angel had referred to Elijah’s prophecy when speaking of him.

Ask God to show you your mission in life.  He will.
