Knowing God's Will
“’For I know the plans I have for you,’ declares the Lord, ‘plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future’” (Jer. 29:11). It’s comforting to know that God has a plan for you, but how do you know what that plan is? If you trying to discern God's will for your life, we have put together articles by women who have asked some of the same questions you may be asking.

While it may not be that simple, we can go to God’s Word to find out more about His general will for all people and then apply it to our own lives.
space
If we start out broadly, we know that God’s will is that all people would come to a saving knowledge of Jesus Christ as Lord (1 Tim. 2:4). If you have already done that, then He desires that you follow Him, which means obeying the precepts He has given us in His Word.

Jesus summed up all of God’s commandments with just two: “Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind and with all your strength,” and “Love your neighbor as yourself” (Mark 12:30-31). If we follow these commandments, we are following God’s will.

“But what does that mean, practically speaking, for me?” you might well ask.

When you’re driving at night, your car’s headlights provide just enough light for you to see a little of the road ahead of you. You cannot see too far ahead, but just enough to go a little further, and then a little further, until you’ve reached your destination. Sometimes God reveals His will for us like that, a little at a time. If we are faithful in what we know He wants us to do today, then He will show us a little more.

Besides looking into God's Word, there are a few other ways we can discern God’s will for our lives:
space
- Pray about it. If we pray for wisdom, God has promised to give it to us (Jas. 1:5).
- Seek godly counsel (Prov. 12:15). But advice should always be tested against God's Word; God’s will never contradicts His word.
- Step out in faith. If you sense God’s leading, move forward. As you take each step, seek His confirmation in your spirit (Is. 30:21). The Holy Spirit will light your way, one bend in the road at a time.

We encourage you to pray and study what God’s Word has to say about His will. “You will seek me and find me when you seek me with all your heart” (Jer. 29:13).
