More on Living Healthy

Healthy Living

One of my favorite artists, Mary Engelbreit, has a print with a frazzled-looking girl and the words “Life Is Just So Daily.” Ain’t that the truth! We may have grandiose plans for ministry, career, life goals, you name it, but daily routines keep getting in the way.

In Matt. 6:25-34, Jesus assures us that God will provide for our daily needs, reminding us that we don’t need to worry about tomorrow, but instead we should “seek first his kingdom and his righteousness” (Matt. 6:33).

Our culture places a high value on busyness, but busyness can rob us of greater things that God has in store for us. As Jesus old the Pharisees, “The thief comes only to steal and kill and destroy. I came that they may have life and have it abundantly” (John 10:10). For some of us, that thief stealing our abundant life might be busyness.

Christians are called to be countercultural. We are “in the world but not of the world” (John 17:14-18). That means our priorities should be different. We should center our lives on Christ rather than on what the world says is important. Perhaps that means offering your daily schedule to God, asking Him to reorder your life to reflect His priorities.

But God cares about your day-to-day struggles, as well. He knew what every day of your life would hold before you were even born (Ps. 139:16). He knows your hopes and dreams, your expectations, your need for purpose, your search for balance.

You can go to Him when you are overwhelmed with stress, facing unexpected transitions, confronted with a health crisis, or simply challenged by the physical limitations of getting older. "'Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest,' Jesus tells us. 'Take my yoke upon you and learn from me, for I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. For my yoke is easy and my burden is light'” (Matt. 1:28-30).

Ultimately, seek God’s strength and guidance for your life. As He promises, “Seek first his kingdom and his righteousness, and all these things will be given to you as well” (Matt. 6:3).
