But waiting can also be a season of growth, refining, and deepening of your faith. The personal stories, biblical insights, and reminders of God's sovereignty found here, are meant to be a source of encouragement and wisdom in your season of waiting. When God Says Wait
“Are we there yet?”

Those words would inevitably come from the back seat within the first hour of a long car trip when my children were young.

We must seem like impatient young children to God when we are waiting for answers to our prayers. But unlike earthly parents, God is infinitely patient, and He cares as much about the process as He does the outcome. If you are waiting on God, how might He be using this time to grow your faith? What can you do while you’re waiting on Him?

“For God alone, O my soul, wait in silence, for my hope is from him. … Trust in him at all times, O people; pour out your heart before him; God is a refuge for us” (Ps. 62:5; 8, ESV). God has shoulders big enough for all your fears and sorrows. Pour out your heart to Him. Even when it feels like He’s not listening, you can be sure He cares (1 Pet. 5:7).

Jesus told the parable of a widow who brought her petition for justice before an unrighteous judge. Although he refused at first, because she persisted, he finally granted her request. Jesus told his disciples this so they would “always pray and not give up” (Luke 18:1). God, who is righteous and loving, will answer our prayers even more readily than an unrighteous human judge. Don’t give up.

Paul and Timothy prayed for the believers in Colossae: “May you be strengthened with all power, … for all endurance and patience with joy, giving thanks to the Father, who has qualified you to share in the inheritance of the saints in light” (Col. 1:11-12, ESV). It may be difficult, but even in the waiting, we can thank God for the outcome, knowing that in His infinite love and sovereignty, He will work things out “for the good of those who love him” (Rom. 8:28).

There is nothing quite as difficult as waiting. When we are in the middle of some particularly difficult situation, time appears to stand still. And just as a car ride can seem interminable to a small child, waiting on the Lord can seem like an eternity to us. But place your hope in Him, for “We wait in hope for the Lord; he is our help and our shield. In him our hearts rejoice, for we trust in his holy name. May your unfailing love be with us, Lord, even as we put our hope in you” (Ps. 33:20-22).

God is faithful and worthy of our trust. He keeps His promises: “Know therefore that the LORD your God is God; he is the faithful God, keeping his covenant of love to a thousand generations of those who love him and keep his commandments” (Deut. 7:9). And remember, His timing is perfect.
